How to Install an Addon in WoW Classic (Era, Hardcore, SoD, TBC, Forever)
Installing an addon in World of Warcraft Classic takes less than three minutes. Here's how, version by version, plus the mistakes that most often stop an addon from showing up.
1. Close the game
WoW only loads addons at startup. Close it completely before installing.
2. Download and extract the addon
Addons almost always come as a .zip file. Right-click it and choose "Extract All": you get a folder, for example SwifftXP.
3. Put the folder in the right place
Each WoW version has its own addons folder inside your World of Warcraft folder:
- Classic Era, Hardcore and Season of Discovery:
World of Warcraft/_classic_era_/Interface/AddOns - TBC Classic Anniversary:
World of Warcraft/_anniversary_/Interface/AddOns - WoW Forever: the
Interface/AddOnsfolder of your WoW Forever install
If the AddOns folder doesn't exist yet, create it (capital A and O).
4. Enable the addon in game
On the character select screen, click the AddOns button in the bottom left and make sure the addon is ticked.
The most common mistakes
- A doubled folder: after extracting, you end up with
SwifftXP/SwifftXP. Only the folder that directly contains the.tocfiles belongs inAddOns. - The wrong version: an addon placed in
_classic_era_won't appear in TBC, and vice versa. - "Out of date": if the addon is flagged as out of date, tick "Load out of date AddOns" in the same window.
What about SwifftXP?
SwifftXP installs exactly like this: one folder, once. Then pick your guide and follow the arrow. The 1-10 pack is free.
